How to sign in (step-by-step)
- Visit the official login page: uphold.com/login. Always confirm the URL and SSL padlock before entering credentials.
- Enter your registered email address and password. Uphold may also support single sign-on (SSO) with linked services — use only methods you configured.
- If you have 2FA enabled, provide the second factor (TOTP code, mobile push, or hardware key) when prompted.
- On successful sign-in, review recent activity and notifications to ensure the session was expected.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
2FA adds a critical second layer of security. Uphold supports time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) and may support security keys (U2F/FIDO2).
- Go to Account Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication.
- Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy) or register a hardware security key.
- Store backup codes in a secure offline location in case you lose access to the 2FA device.
Password & account hygiene
Use a strong, unique password for Uphold. Never reuse passwords across services. Consider a password manager to generate and store complex passwords securely.
Recovering access — lost password or 2FA
If you lose access, Uphold’s recovery flows usually involve email verification and identity checks. For account recovery:
- Begin the recovery at Password Reset.
- Verify your email and answer any account verification prompts.
- If 2FA is lost, use stored backup codes or follow the Support steps to regain access — you may be required to provide ID documents for identity verification.
Recognizing phishing & fake login pages
Phishing pages try to mimic the Uphold login to steal credentials. Protect yourself by:
- Always typing
uphold.com
directly or using a bookmark instead of clicking unknown links. - Checking the TLS/SSL padlock and certificate details in the browser address bar.
- Watching for subtle misspellings or unusual domain names (e.g., uphold-login.example.com).
Security features to enable
Troubleshooting common login issues
Can't reach login page? Confirm your network and DNS settings. Try a different network or clear browser cache. Use an incognito/private window to rule out extension interference.
2FA code not accepted? Check device time synchronization for TOTP apps and ensure you’re using the most recent backup codes if needed.
Unrecognized activity? Immediately change your password, revoke sessions, and contact Uphold Support.
Privacy & data handling
Uphold processes login information and may collect security telemetry to detect fraud and improve account protection. Review the privacy policy for specifics on data handling and retention. Keep personal identifiers to a minimum where possible and only share sensitive documents in official support channels when requested.
Multi-account & business access
If you manage multiple Uphold accounts or business accounts, use distinct email addresses and unique passwords for each account. For teams, set up role-based access controls and take advantage of U2F/FIDO2 security keys to centralize strong authentication.
Developer & API login flows
Developers integrating Uphold should use OAuth/OIDC and official APIs for authentication — avoid scraping or automating the login page. See the developer docs for secure token handling and refresh-token practices at developers.uphold.com.
